Hearts in Union would like to thank you for your support and interest in our work. Each year, Hearts in Union provides valuable support and assistance to a range of people who have tragically suffered severe and permanent spinal injuries through a freak accident while playing rugby.
And whilst the rugby community has always been supportive of helping its own, there is still much work to be done to provide life improving and life affirming support to those who need it.
Australian Rugby Embraces Hearts In Union!
In addition to receiving terrific support and assistance from the Australian Rugby Union, we are delighted with the way our national rugby community has jumped on board to help our injured players.
Brumbies Rugby has also selected Hearts in Union to be an official Match Day Charity Partner in 2015!
This follows on from the great support we received from the Melbourne Rebels as one of their Charity Partner’s from 2011 to 2013.
The Classic Wallabies have been immense in their support of Hearts in Union for many years. Driven by their Co-President & Ambassador for Hearts in Union, Simon Poidevin they continue to go above and beyond in supporting our injured players!
RUPA – The Rugby Union Player’s Association
RUPA has for several years been a fantastic supporter and promoter of the charity and the work we do. We were privileged to once again be the recipients of funds raised at their Annual Awards Lunch. Thank you to RUPA for all their support!

Grand Slam Wallabies 30th Anniversary Reunion Lunch
The 1984 Grand Slam Wallabies squad and Coach, Alan Jones gathered at the Westin Hotel in Sydney on Friday to celebrate 30 years since they defeated England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland on their all-conquering tour of the Home Nations – It’s something no Wallabies team had done before or since!
Hearts in Union was delighted to be involved in this historic event. Along with the Ricky Stuart Foundation, Hearts in Union received a significant donation from the funds raised at the lunch. Thank you to the 1984 Wallabies, Alan Jones, John Fordham and Front Row Events for putting on such an excellent event!
Local Rugby Clubs digging in for our injured players
Rugby truly is a game that embraces the spirit of “mateship” and “fair play”. 2014 was an inspiring year with several local & junior rugby clubs independently choosing to support Hearts in Union and raise funds for their fellow players in need. Words cannot express our thanks for their generosity and enthusiasm.
Waverley Rugby have supported Hearts in Union throughout 2014 in many ways. From wearing our logo, promotion at supporter days and raising funds at their annual presentation night. Heath Donald, Steve Cassells and the entire Club, you have our sincere thanks for your wonderful work!

Sydney & Brisbane Irish Rugby Football Clubs
Both the Sydney & Brisbane Irish have been incredible supporters for a couple years. They continue to hold their own excellent rugby events and voluntarily donate funds to our cause. Both organisations and in particular, Val Baynes, take a bow for your outstanding support!

The work you have helped us achieve
In 7 years, Hearts in Union been able to provide 7 new customised electric wheelchairs, money towards 6 new car conversions, and purchased three second hand converted vans. The Charity has also funded numerous home modifications, repairs & assessments, new computers, mobiles & voice recognition software, bed & chair cushions and other medical equipment needs and raised funds through fundraising & auctions to improve the day to day lives of many severely injured ex-rugby players who are suffering financial hardship.
In 2014, we were able to complete urgent home modifications and repairs, purchase new mobile phones and computers and apply funds for essential wheelchair and converted van modifications. Importantly, we have also been able to set aside funds for rehabilitation and accommodation expenses for future severely injured players who may need respite at the soon to be completed Sargood Centre in Sydney, a world class residential and holistic educational centre for people living with a spinal cord injury.
