Newsletter – March 2017

Hearts in Union thanks you for your support and interest in our work! Each year, Hearts in Union provides valuable assistance to people who have tragically suffered a severe spinal or other permanent and life altering injury through a freak accident while playing rugby.

Your are making a real difference!

Our recent work

The Amosa family and their new car with Bronwyn Wellings on behalf of Hearts in Union, Tilly Vlok, President of Box Hill Rugby and Alan Winney, Director of the Australian Rugby Foundation in December 2016.

Thanks to our generous supporters, we were able to give just over $100,000 in the past financial year to assist severely injured former rugby players. Some of our most recent work has included:

  • A new Suzuki Vitara for Arona Amosa and his young family in Clyde, Victoria. In conjunction with the Australian Rugby Foundation, we were thrilled to provide Arona with this early Christmas present which will make a huge difference in the Amosa family’s daily lives.
  • A potentially life-saving Philips Cough Assist Machine for Greg Killeen in Banksmeadow, NSW. These machines reduce the very real risk of respiratory complications faced by many spinal injury sufferers. At close to $10,000 these important machines are sadly unaffordable for many people.
  • A new Miele oven and cooktop for Peter Worsley and his family in Orange, NSW. As well as being essential daily items, their installation at a lower height level allows Peter to enjoy cooking for his family again.

There is much more work still to be done. We have $70,000 to $80,000 already approved or earmarked for projects to assist more people in the very near future.
